Left Ireland On Fire…

“Your story touches deep nerves, hidden secrets, shame, guilt and transformation.  The rising of the Phoenix.  Very resonant on many levels with the Irish public!  Beautifully, vulnerably and very courageously done!   You left Ireland on fire!
~ Ann Tyrell

I’ve been reciting “If you are  proud that you are Irish” since birth. I have always been proud to be Irish. After the Sean O’Casey Theatre Festival, I know that the Irish are proud of me. I was told Irish people don’t raise their hands – not true. The secrets are spoken…. and The Magdalene Laundries cleaned up.

My Voice Is Making A Difference…

This news posted June 27, 2024, in Delaware’s Daily State News:

“What Is Your Voice, The Fund for Women at Delaware Community Foundation, and Philanthropy Delaware announce four awards will be made from proceeds of the April 28 presentation of “Runaway Princess: A Hopeful Tale of Heroin, Hooking and Happiness” performance at Cape Henlopen High School.

The performance by Mary Goggin, a New-York based actress and survivor or addiction, abuse and trafficking, who wrote and performs her own one-woman show, was a collaborative effort of many organizations.

The non-profits, which address trafficking and mental and physical wellness in Delaware, will each receive $2,500.”

What They’re Saying About Runaway Princess Play…

“Blew me away… rowdy, irreverent, salacious, gracious insightful, riveting.”

Malachy McCourt

“The story is often brutal yet somehow spellbinding, she engages the audience in a manner that keeps them from politely turning away.”

Island Current

“I am in tears all over again writing this review, but I can tell you this: Goggin delivers and I left the playing space with happiness in my heart.”

League of Cincinnati Theatres

“A tale of hope that deserved to be shared.”

Edinburgh Festival 2022

“Fortunately, like all fables, there is a happy ending. As we peel away the last layer of a broken woman, one who trod on the edge of society because she never felt she fit in, we finally find the princess, reunited at last with her most precious treasures. This is indeed a tale of hope that deserved to be shared.”

Everything Theatre UK

“…switching briefly to the Galway Fringe Festival, a show that really packed a punch was Mary Goggin’s Runaway Princess  which related her life story of enduring years of drug addiction, alcoholism, and prostitution before finally beating her demons and finding joy. Goggin’s story was told matter of factly, neither sensational nor self-pitying, and with frequent flashes of humour.

She vividly evoked the range of characters she encountered from parents, to teachers, pushers and pimps…. Always riveting, often funny, and ultimately deeply moving, Runaway Princess was another personal high point of the last fortnight.”

Galway Advertiser

“Gripping… a show that can empower and heal.”

Kirk Sheppard
Theatre Critic, Cincinnati

“A wild ride.”

Rick Pender’s Theatre

“There is a moment, most years during the Fringe, when you realize you are listening to a story which is (a) true, (b) told by the person to whom these events happened and (c) completely extraordinary. This year, for me, it’s Mary Goggin, with her all-American tale of drinking, drugs and prostitution and how (incredibly) she overcame it all.

The Scotsman

“Runaway Princess will rock your socks off. Mary Pat Goggin will scare and comfort you. A suffering human being, who finds reason for hope and action.”

My Story… My Mission

The Mission…

Runaway Princess’s  mission is to shock people into humanity. Sharing my secrets gives others permission to share theirs, resulting in a true connection to humanity. It is a mission to promote healing from the stigma of addiction, from violence against women. The play addresses bullying, overeating, generational differences, prostitution, the shame of being an alcoholic mother.

Runaway Princess play addresses all this ~ head on.

Our emotional state is just as important as our physical health and if we want to prevent this from happening there needs to be a shift towards the normalization that we have emotions for a reason: They are our roadmap to life and suppressing them can lead to some ugly places.

The Audience…

Theatre, Universities, Arts Festivals, Schools, Community Outreach, Sensitivity Training, Irish Centers, Irish Museums, Organizations: Colleges re: Addiction, Recovery, Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking, Overeating, Bullying, Normalizing Emotions and  more.

Ms. Goggin,
I want to say that on Friday June 2nd when you were in the Southern Maine Women’s Re-entry Center here in Windham and you passed out the flyers to your performance I felt the realness that was about to take place. When you began I was not sure where you were going with the it, but then when you got into the deep dark part of your life in addiction and everything else it made me know that no matter who you are it can happen to anyone. I now know that I am definitely not alone in this journey. I really connected with you and your performance. I cannot wait to see it with all the bells and whistles…. Again thank you for going out of your way for us women, we needed that.
